TeaM-ACiD1C released Acid Customised Firmware v3.41.010. A custom firmware solution for the PS3



TeaM-ACiD1C announces the third official release of their Acid Customised Firmware. This is a custom firmware for retail PS3 systems that features several modifications, as well as add-ons from the debug firmware. This custom firmware can be booted from your USB flash drive or be installed onto your PS3.

multiMAN v1.10.18 released



Based off the Open Manager application, multiMAN function not only as a backup manager, but also as a file manager, an AVCHD and BDMV media player, and can stream content to the PlayStation Portable (PSP) system via Remote Play.

GenesisPlus beta (Sega Genesis emulator) released



An unknown developer has released a Sega Genesis emulator called GenesisPlus, for the PS3. The emulator is currently in the beta stage but supports two (2) players, rom in .zip format, and svp emulation.

How-to use:
1) Put all folders so that the following folders, ./genplus, ./genplus/roms, ./genplus/bios, ./genplus/state, and ./genplus/sram are on root of your USB flash drive.

[UPDATE] More Android phones added for downgrading PS3



Developer Klutsh is back with more psfServiceMod recovery image files for selected Android phones (17 phones are supported) . These recovery images are designed to be flashed onto an Android phone for the purpose of downgrading the PS3. Please note that in order to use any of these recovery image files, your Android phone needs to be rooted (hacked) first. If your phone hasn't been rooted yet, there are plenty of tutorials online to walk you through it; the same case for flashing recovery images. Download link available below.

How to create a custom boot up sound for the PS3

To get started, you will need Comgenie's Awesome File Manager, XviD4PSP (for PC), and Mount Alejandro. Here's a quick update regarding Team X3 and the Master Key. They confirmed that they actually do have the PS3's console Master Key but are seeking for ways to protect it prior to releasing it to the public. We can only imagine what Sony is thinking right now.

Mount Alejandro homebrew app released. Use it to write to dev_flash directory



Thought to have left the PS3 scene, developer JaiCraB is back with a new homebrew app called Mount Alejandro. The app was developed and released by JaiCraB and ps3mrenigma. The main function of this app is to enable you the ability to write to /dev_flash directory--the location of the PS3's firmware files. To accomplish this task, Mount Alejandro would mirror /dev_flash to /dev_alejandro--turning /dev_alejandro into the active one. Let's hope this app brings us one step closer to a custom firmware for the PS3. Below is a rough translation of the readme file.

Team X3 may be in possession of the PS3's system Master Key--not the USB Master Key



Earlier, we reported that Team X3 has decided to delay the release of the firmware v3.50 jailbreak. Since then, there has been some new information as to what has been going on at team X3's lab. According to Logic-Sunrise, team X3 is in possession of the PS3’s system Master Key; not the USB Master Key released days ago by developer Mathieulh. As you may or may not already know, the PS3’s system master key can give developers, as well as hackers complete access to the PS3's entire system. Below is a rough translation of the news.

SELF/SPRX Decrypter v0.6 beta released. Improved file decryption and stability



Developer Heden is back with the second beta released of SELF/SPRX Decrypter-- a homebrew application that is used for decrypting the internal SELF/SPRX files stored on the PS3. This released includes improved file decryption and fixed a bug that caused the application to hang on some files.

Team X3 delayed the release of firmware v3.50 jailbreak



Looking for the firmware v3.50 jailbreak from team X3? Well, you are going to have to wait a bit longer. According to the team, they want to take necessary precautions prior to releasing the firmware v3.50 jailbreak--to avoid the cloning of their jailbreak method.

Rogero Manager v7.8 released. Includes new protected mode, new XMB icon, and several fixes



Developer Rogero is back with another update to his backup manager, called Rogero Manager. Just in case you didn't know, Rogero Manager is a modification of the original Open Manager. This released includes new features and fixes, as shown below in the changelog.

How-to retrieve PSN content and play it on firmware v3.41



For those who had purchased PSN content but are unable to retrieve or play it on v3.41, you can follow the steps below to resolve it. You will need an external hard drive for the backup.

External processor to increase PS3's power. PS4 may be a no-show



Sony recently filed a patent that shows plans to release an external processor that would boost the PS3's current power. So, does this mean that Sony has no to plans to release the PS4 in the near future? Who knows! But, one thing is certain though, this external processor will help extend the life-cycle of the PS3. Let's hope that it doesn't suffer the same fate as the Sega 32X add-on for the Sega Genesis system.

Eclipse released v1.4c firmware update for ecliPS3 USB device



That was quick! Here is an update to the downgrader that Eclipse released a couple of days back (v1.3), for their ecliPS3 USB device. Eclipse claimed that using this released, v1.4c, you should not experience any Blu-ray movie playback issue.
