Caution: PS3 + PSDowngrade x 2 = Brick

Greg, admin from PSP-Hacks.com, has managed to downgrade (using Downgrade) his very own PS3 from firmware v3.50 to 3.41 but when attempting to reproduce the downgrade on the same PS3, it semi-bricked (aka semi-dead). The good news is that Greg eventually figured out how to fix it. And so can you, if you ever semi-brick your PS3.

Use PS Downgrade with extreme caution. I’ve semi-bricked my PS3 while playing around. As PS Jailbreak stated, I guess you can only attempt a downgrade once. Now I don’t believe my PS3 to be fully bricked; I say semi because I can repeat step 6 and the system does try flashing PS3UPDAT.PUP from the USB key again. During that flashing process it succeeds throughout many stages; however, towards the end it fails with:

manufacturing updating FAILURE(0x8002f057)
Total Elapsed time = 156974 msec

Gran Turismo 5 leaked four days before release date

 

What this? Gran Turismo 5 is available for download? Yes, the game has been leaked four days before its official release date--11/24/2010. Don't pretend you don't know where to go to download this game. In case you really don't know, I'll give you a hint--it ends with "iso.com". Oh, you'll need a jailbroken PS3 to run this and it is compatible with Hermes v4b or PL3 payload running the spoof firmware v3.50--online play ready!

HEXTOOL v1.0.1 by Maximus released

This application allows you to theoretically convert .hex files designed for a specific USB jailbreak device over to another USB jailbreak device. (e.g. teensy++ hex file to minimus avr hex file).

WHAT IT IS?

Its a tool to extract the payload components from an hex file and to paste over
another, so teorically is a tool that might help to port any new released
payload to another board.

It also work if you want extract .bin payload files for your specific board
flasher.

What Parameters it require?

a) Donor File, the .hex file that has the payload you want to copy
b) Acceptor File, the .hex file that has an image of working code for
your board
c) Destination File, The output file resulting. (The tool dont overwrite
the Acceptor file)
d) Optional you can tweak the max-address, this is to limit the payload
check range as it consume memory, set to the default. Any address
above this value will not be checked and just copied to the output file
to preserve it (by example the pic configuration bits)

Incoming: PS3 cheat device for the holidays

 
Japanese company called Cybergadget is planning to release a cheat device for the PS3 sometime this year; perhaps before Christmas.

Cybergadget, the Japanese accessory maker is currently working on a cheat device that will enable the users to get cheat codes for their favorite games on PS3.

This device will be used with the PS3 and will cost around 7800 Yen (around $100). The makers of this device have been making cheat devices for the handhelds, for a few years, under the brand name Code Freak.

Rogero Manager v7.7 released

Rogero Manager is a modified version of Open Manager. Its design and functionality are very similar to that of Open Manager.

Based off the Open Manager homebrew app, multiMAN function not only as a backup manager, but also as a AVCHD and BDMV player, and as file manager.

What is AVCHD? AVCHD is a camcorder video format. Most camcorder use this format for high-definition recording.

What is BDMV? BDMV is a Blu-ray video format.

CE-X Hybrid payload for PS3 v3.41 released

This payload is a port of xoeo custom PL3 payload that was release for firmware v3.15 and is design to work on firmware v3.41.

This payload is a port of Xoeo custom PL3 for 3.15.
We have converted it for use with 3.41, major cleaning up of the coding and added/removed some stuff. /the only reason we are releasing this is because we said we would. This is still experimental so don't complain if something doesn't work for you.

What makes this payload different is that it is a hybrid of PL3 and hermes. It is very stable with 0 lock ups, but there is a catch some backups will return a 800xxx error. This payload is very stable but also kind of a backwards step in our goals as it uses syscall36. Either way it is still a very good payload. 

*I might have left out a few features I cant recall right now due to lack of sleep*

I have tested this with Gaia 1.03.1 and I was able to load backups but as I stated above some games will give you a 8000xxxx error and is bing looked into. I have also tested BlackBox FTP, Comagen Filemanager, Snes9x and all run perfectly. If you want to use multiman make sure to set syscall36 in your options.ini.

Don't Get Crush v1.0 released (PS3 homebrew game)

This is a PS3 homebrew game. The objective is to not get crushed by the bouncing black balls.

Notable changes:

Analog stick controls have been replaced with sixaxis motion controls

[UPDATE] Hermes v4b & PL3 payload w/ PSN online play & 3.50 spoofing + TI-84/89

Thanks to developer xoeo for releasing the payload with PSN and online play, fl0PPsy for compiling the Rockbox files that supports PSN and 3.50 spoofing, and DJLO for compiling these .hex files for PSN and 3.50 spoofing.

The SPOOFING feature will trick the PS3 games into thinking that you are running firmware 3.50 on your system.

SNES9x v4.4.1 (SNES emulator) released

SNES9X is a Super Nintendo emulator for the PS3.

If you exit a ROM with L3+R3, you can return back to the game while inside the ROM Browser menu by pressing

L2+R2 simultaneously.

Maximus ANYHEX Converter v2.0 released

Maximus ANYHEX converter is designed for PIC users (e.g PIC18F devices). You can use this PC tool to convert pre-compiled ATMEL .hex files into binary files so that it could be used to flash PIC18F USB devices.

Porting the .hexes from the daily new and updated payloads is taking me more time than I expected, and since you deserve a faster port of the payloads to the PIC18F devices I decided to invest some time in a new HID Loader 2.0 with a new "ANY HEX IMPORT" feature!

Basically with this you never have to wait for me to port the payloads to the MAXAVRUSB v1.2 32KB or to the PIC18FUSB devices.

It would appear that logging onto PSN or online play on a jailbroken PS3 is not possible any longer.

FCEU v1.3 Released (NES Emulator)

This is an NES emulator--second NES emulator to be released on the PS3.

Include are two pkg files. One for running on firmware 3.41, and the other for firmware 1.92

CURRENTLY IMPLEMENTED FCEU FUNCTIONS:
- .zip support
- SRAM support
- State save
- 4P Support
- Settings save and load
- Shader support (Cg format)
- Not all shaders run full speed at 1080p.
- Try lower the resolution for shaders which run slow.
