You may already know that you can use the PSJailbreak USB device to downgrade any PS3 systems running firmware v3.42 or higher back down to v3.41 (for the purpose of jailbreaking). But what you may not know is that you can also use it to downgrade firmware v3.41 down to v3.15. Why would you want to downgrade to v3.15 when v3.41 is good enough, you ask? Well, ever since firmware v3.21, Sony had removed the "Other OS" option from the original PS3--disabling the ability to install Linux. Therefore, using this guide, you can get back what Sony had taken from you and proudly say “I win and you lose, Sony”—or not. By the way, the slimmer PS3 models do not support “Other OS”, therefore downgrading to v3.15 may be pointless. And many homebrews are only compatible firmware v3.41. Alright, before performing the downgrade from firmware v3.41 to v3.15, you should at least become familiar with how to put the PS3 into 'Service Mode' and downgrade the PS3 from firmware v3.42 (or higher) to 3.41--using the step-by-step guide below. Once you have become familiar with the process, follow this video guide below to downgrade to v3.15.
Requirements:
- Genuine PSJailbreak USB device
- PSJailbrak Updater v1.3 or higher
- Internet connection
1) Downloaded PSJailbreak Updater v1.3 or higher.
2) After download is complete, start the installation of the PSJailbreak Updater.
3) Once installation is done, connect the PsJailbreak USB device to a USB port on your computer (wait until the PC can detect the device).
4) After your computer detects the PSJailbreak USB device, click on the PsUpgrader.exe program (it should be a shortcut on your computer) and soon you will see that the program will recognize the PSJailbreak USB device with a valid serial number (see picture below).
5) As shown on the pictures below, click on "Download updates" to download two files, 'Downgrader_SerialNamber.fla' and 'prog_SerialNamber.fla' and you should have two files downloaded onto your computer.
6) After the two files have been downloaded, click on the "Update Now" option and then click on "Click here to select file" (see picture below) and select the 'Downgrader_SerialNumber.fla' file (downloaded earlier).
7) The last step is to click on 'Apply Updates' and wait for the program to update the PsJailbreak USB device.
8) At this point you can unplug the PSJailbreak USB device from your computer and plug it into your PS3.
9) Unplug the PS3 from its power source and plug it back into the power outlet, the PS3 front LED should be red (indicating it is receiving power).
10) Press the power button, follow by QUICKLY pressing the eject button on your PS3. You should see the PSJailbreak USB device blinking (reading) and the PS3 front LED changing from red to green and then back to red.
11) Remove the PSJailbreak USB device, and press the power button one more time. Your PS3 should be in Service Mode/Factory Restore Mode.
12) Google for PS3 firmware v3.41, download it onto your computer, and transfer it onto your USB flash drive.
If you don't know how to run a firmware installation from a USB flash drive, follow this 'PS3 PC Update' guide written by Sony.
Note: In case you want to restore the PSJailbreak USB device back to normal for the purpose of jailbreaking, you can simply select the file 'prog_SerialNumber.fla' (downloaded ealier) for the restoration process.
