[UPDATE] WARNING! Downgrading your PS3 will kill Blu-ray movie playback

Update 12/8/10: Developer Mathieulh confirmed that there are different modified firmware v3.41 PUP files floating around the web. Downgrading using an incorrectly modified firmware v3.41 will cause your PS3 to not be able to playback Blu-ray movies. According to Mathieulh, the modified v3.41 firmware that is okay to use must have the following SHA1 value: F3C19E06C0E7B8CC550BB3244F5F88356173FA6D.You can use MD5 & SHA-1 Checksum Utility to verify the copy that you have or simply download below, as it has already been verified to have the correct SHA1 value.

Update 12/7/10: According to Mathieulh, the Blu-ray movie playback issue is caused by the modified v3.41 PUP (firmware update) file and not the downgrader itself. There you have it, use the non-modified v3.41 PUP file instead (see download link below or grab it from here)

Tweeted by Mathieulh:
"The people having bluray movies playback issues after downgrading, this happens because you updated to a modified PUP (psjb one) which has its /dev_flash3/ tarball swapped (probably to a debug one, debug consoles do not sport bd movies playback) with other CRL/DRL revocation files."

Man, this can't be happening! The current downgrading method has a flaw--it's a big one, too. If you downgrade your PS3, expect Blu-ray movie playback to stopped working. You read that right. The only solution to restoring Blu-ray movie playback from a downgrade is to copy your backup of all the files inside /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 back to the PS3's internal hard drive (HDD). But chances are you didn't do a backup of /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 nor had access to those files because you downgraded from a "non-jailbreakable" firmware--v3.41 or v3.50. This is a lesson learned; in the future, make sure to backup critical system files and folders such as those mentioned above.

For those who already downgraded from v3.41/3.50, you will have to wait and see if there is a solution to restoring the Blu-ray movie playback. Stay tune!

Note: Upgrading back to v3.42 or v3.50 or downgrading to other firmware version will not resolve the issue.
