After some issues with the first release (v1.1), which could not handle large amounts of requests for downgrading, the PSJailbreak team is back with an update to their PSJailbreak Updater tool. Developer ThatOtherDev has released an update to his homebrew game called Cubicle Shooter. This release includes many changes (see below).

Notable changes:

You can now shoot other players in split screen multiplayer (still no player death but you get pushed back when shot).
You are taller now. You can crouch back to your previous shortness by holding down the right analog stick. You automatically crouch when there isn’t enough room to stand.
Enemies in multiplayer will approach the nearest player (they would previously only follow player one).
Enemies no longer spawn inside the cube at the start of the game so you wont encounter them until you blast through the wall (It was beginning to feel a little bit too crowded).
The kill counter has been replaced with a score system. You get 10 points each time you shoot a cubicle dweller. The scores are tracked separately for each player.
Textured stars onto the sky.
Set a limit to how deep you can dig into the ground (the limit is fairly deep and I don’t expect it will be a problem for anyone).
Fixed the scope in multiplayer.
Some improvements to performance.

Developer graf_choko has released an update to his reverse engineering effort of this PS3. He mentioned that he was able to decrypt the lv2diag.self file. This specific file is a Sony Service file that is currently used by the PSDowngrade software for the purpose of downgrading the PS3. Because the lv2diag.self is decrypted, developers can now study how the downgrade process works. Additionally, graf_choko has plans to dump the master key for the PS3 Service Jig using a development board and two original PS3 (not slim) systems running firmware v3.15. Not to mention, a self decrypter tool for decrypting lv2diag.self file will be released to the public soon.

Firmware v1.50 PUP file has been leaked for PS3 debug units. This leak was brought to us by forum member ConsoleDev from DemonHades. With this leak, owners of PS3 debug units can now downgrade their system to firmware v1.50—enabling the installation of retail PKG files (PKG files can be full games and demos) and decryption of SPRX; decrypting the SPRX is necessary for understanding how the PS3 system works.

Developer xttl is back with an update to his port of the classic DOOM game for the PS3. As previously mentioned, this port is called PS3 DOOM.

v3 is now out. Sound effects should work pretty much perfectly now, there’s a simple launcher that will allow you to select an IWAD if you have multiple ones available (no PWADs yet, and the launcher menu only lists the first 10 IWADs it finds which can happen if you have duplicates of them on different storage devices) and in case an error happens after graphics have been initalized, you’ll see the error message on screen. (not just via ethernet debugging if enabled).

Hermes, developer of the Hermes payloads, has ported classic DOOM, Heretic, and Hexen over to the PS3. As always, you will need a jailbroken PS3 system to install and play. Grab it below.

Installation:

There are two ways for install

1) By PKG. On this occasion, copy the folder content "pkg" on the root´s directory of the USB device and "Install Package Files" on the PS3

Word on the street is that if you were to pick up a new PS3 system now, chances are it is running firmware v3.42 or higher (v3.50). So, if you just purchased a new PS3 system and want to hack it right out of the box with a USB jailbreak device, well… you can’t! Not unless you downgrade it first to firmware v3.41. And to downgrade, you will need to invest in PSDowngrade, which comes with the PSJailbreak USB device.

A forum member from psgroove.com who goes by the name HKKory has discovered a new PS3 exploit. This exploit was hiding in the PlayStation Move demo disc but now has been exposed to the public. You can use it to install homebrew (.PKG file) applications onto your jailbroken PS3. The only thing I’m wondering is whether this can be used for other purposes because using this exploit to install homebrew applications on a jailbroken PS3 is rather umm… useless--since you can already do that with a jailbroken PS3.

If you attempt to boot Gran Turismo 5 on a jailbroken PS3, it is not going to work, so don’t even bother. The issue is that the EBOOT file will not decrypt using the current jailbreak method. Unless Mathieulh and his gang can get this issue resolved, don’t hold your breath in hopes that future games will not contain this type of encryption—your face may just turn blue. Buy a P3Go GT-Break USB device, get a free trojan virus as a bonus

According to blog site PS3 Jailbreak Info Centre, a USB jailbreaking device that goes by the name "P3Go GT-Break" will help you jailbreak your PS3 system but in return, it wants your passwords and banking information that are stored on your computer. When plugged into your computer, this device will attempt to install a trojan virus (aka trojan horse) onto your computer—consisting of two files, autorun.inf and xnokvokl.exe, an executable file.The first image below shows the two files of interest, while the second image shows the scan result.

Sindol, a forum member from logic-sunrise, reported a discovery of the presence of a Neo-Geo icon. This icon can be found in one of the PS3 system file called explore_plugin_full.rco, located in \dev_flash\vsh\resource\.

If my memories are correct, this is probably the 3rd FTP homebrew application released for the PS3. This one is called PS3FTP. Developer stoneMcClane claimed that this is the "first legal homebrew FTP server for the PS3" because it was developed using the open source PS3 SDK called PSL1GHT. 1) To start the FTP server, just run the PS3-FTP.self via ps3load/wiiload or install the

Developer DemonHades is researching on a solution to get PS3 games that requires firmware v3.50 (e.g. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit) to boot on jailbroken PS3 systems. Since the PS3 jailbreak method only works on PS3 with firmware v3.41 or lower, booting up PS3 games that requires firmware v3.42 or higher will not work (unless a patch is developed for that specific game). If you have been following developer KaKaRoToKS on Twitter, you would know that he is very involved with the development of the PS3 PL3 payload. With that being said, he just updated the PL3 payload which includes the LV1 hypercall tracer payload. Keep in mind, the released of this payload is for developers to compile and port over to the appropriate USB board or hardware (e.g. teensy++, minimus, maximus, blackcat, iPod, TI-84+, Droid, etc.).

According to developer DemonHades, his source said that Electronic Arts (EA) is in the process of developing a method that would detect and block hacked EA games (on jailbroken PS3 systems) from connecting to their online servers. Hm, all I have to say is "good luck EA, you'll need it!".

Gaia Manager is based off Open Manager and Sexy Manager. Therefore, you can use this to boot games stored on your jailbroken PS3. Not to mention, this manager have features not found on other managers.

Notes:

PL3 dev (peek & poke) payload is not supported and using it may crash your PS3.
Precompiled psgroove+pl3 versions often include dev payload, so use my builded hexes instead.

Features:

Supports up to 512 items from two USB devices, internal hdd and bluray.
Ability to copy games from bdvd to hdd0 or USB's, from hdd0 to USB's or from USB's to hdd0. It is done asking to you the destination device. It use uses asynchronous reading and writing for fast copy.
Special support for big files in FAT: it splits files >= 4GB using .666xx fragments (if the file is name.ext, the file splits as name.ext.66600, name.ext.66601,...). This file is not bootable and it is marked using '_' as folder prefix. The file is joined when you copy it to hdd0 device.
Automatically finds the path of the games and asks to you about it. In other case, if the Gaia Manager is installed in the hdd0 creates one. You can change it pressing SELECT+START later.
Including checking game option (pressing R3). It displays information about the files, size, splits or big files, if it have one.

FTP support to upload homebrew: Gaia Manager uses "GAIA01985" as user, by default. I recommend flashfxp to use it, because FTP (Sony) support is not very good.
Supports Hermes v3 patching and disc-less playing. if you return from game list, apps_home can launch games without one disc (some games don't work without any disc).

If you are in the market for a jailbreaking device for the PS3, you may want to look into this. Many jailbreaking devices out there only support the .hex files that are programmed for it, but the company behind this PS3 USB Jailbreak product claimed that their device can accept any .hex files designed for other devices.

Developer NZHawk and DarkHacker have discovered a little hack that helps you organize your files and applications that are on the PS3’s XMB (cross media bar). This hack is done by modifying the category string found in the system file called PARAM.SFO.

Well I was talking to DarkHarker about param.sfo files and that. He asked me to try changing the CATAGORY string to ‘HM’ and see what it did.
It made the package install under the Playstation Network catagory on the XMB. DarkHacker and I then worked out the rest of the catagories that its possible to install and run hombrew applications to the xmb, and found them all except Users, Settings and Friends (which all seem to be filled with the xml files in the vsh flash folder).

Developer zAxis, from psx-scene, says that he is currently developing his own tool called PSGrade which will allow you to downgrade your PS3. The tool will be open source, therefore it will be free. Who doesn't like free, right?

This is the classic DOOM game that has been ported to the PS3.

It took a little while to get it to start up at all (without any graphics, sound, input...pretty much nothing except debug output to the Ethernet port), mainly due to some 64 bit vs. 32 bit issues (endianness issues were already given some thought in the source!).

Right now it only runs in 1920x1080 because the upscaler (the game still renders in 320x200) is hard-coded for this. I set the resolution info in PARAM.SFO correctly so that XMB will not even let you launch it unless you have 1080i or 1080p selected as a supported mode in display options. The controls are also hard-coded and it has no sound or music yet, but because this version is already quite playable (I just played through the whole shareware episode using it) I thought I'd upload it. "Release early, release often" you know. ;-) The 35Hz timer the game requires is implemented using a separate thread that just does usleep(1000000/35); ticker++; all the time because PSL1GHT seems not to have any support for the Cell OS Lv-2 timer syscalls yet (except for sleep & usleep). Timing seems to work OK like this though.

How to use:
To use this, download the PKG (link later in this post) and install it using "Install package files". Then copy a supported DOOM IWAD to the game's directory (/dev_hdd0/game/DOOM00666/USRDIR/) OR put it on a USB drive (or on a CF/SD/MMC/MS memory card if you have an early PS3 that has the integrated card readers) under /ps3doom/. Then you just launch the game from the XMB icon and it should work.

[UPDATE] Where to put your ROMS:
1) Create a new folder called "FBANext-ROMS" (without quotes) on the root of your USB flash drive.

2) It should look like this X:\FBANext-ROMS\ ("X:" represent your USB flash drive assigned drive letter)

Caution: PS3 + PSDowngrade x 2 = Brick

Greg, admin from PSP-Hacks.com, has managed to downgrade (using Downgrade) his very own PS3 from firmware v3.50 to 3.41 but when attempting to reproduce the downgrade on the same PS3, it semi-bricked (aka semi-dead). The good news is that Greg eventually figured out how to fix it. And so can you, if you ever semi-brick your PS3.

Use PS Downgrade with extreme caution. I’ve semi-bricked my PS3 while playing around. As PS Jailbreak stated, I guess you can only attempt a downgrade once. Now I don’t believe my PS3 to be fully bricked; I say semi because I can repeat step 6 and the system does try flashing PS3UPDAT.PUP from the USB key again. During that flashing process it succeeds throughout many stages; however, towards the end it fails with:

Updating or Verifying failure 0x8002f057
UpMng.UpdatePackage() failure
manufacturing updating FAILURE(0x8002f057)
Total Elapsed time = 156974 msec

What this? Gran Turismo 5 is available for download? Yes, the game has been leaked four days before its official release date--11/24/2010. Don't pretend you don't know where to go to download this game. In case you really don't know, I'll give you a hint--it ends with "iso.com". Oh, you'll need a jailbroken PS3 to run this and it is compatible with Hermes v4b or PL3 payload running the spoof firmware v3.50--online play ready!

HEXTOOL v1.0.1 by Maximus released

This application allows you to theoretically convert .hex files designed for a specific USB jailbreak device over to another USB jailbreak device. (e.g. teensy++ hex file to minimus avr hex file).

Its a tool to extract the payload components from an hex file and to paste over
another, so teorically is a tool that might help to port any new released
payload to another board.

It also work if you want extract .bin payload files for your specific board
flasher.

What Parameters it require?

a) Donor File, the .hex file that has the payload you want to copy
b) Acceptor File, the .hex file that has an image of working code for
your board
c) Destination File, The output file resulting. (The tool dont overwrite
the Acceptor file)
d) Optional you can tweak the max-address, this is to limit the payload
check range as it consume memory, set to the default. Any address
above this value will not be checked and just copied to the output file
to preserve it (by example the pic configuration bits)

Japanese company called Cybergadget is planning to release a cheat device for the PS3 sometime this year; perhaps before Christmas.

Rogero Manager is a modified version of Open Manager. Its design and functionality are very similar to that of Open Manager.

CE-X Hybrid payload for PS3 v3.41 released

This payload is a port of xoeo custom PL3 payload that was release for firmware v3.15 and is design to work on firmware v3.41.

This payload is a port of Xoeo custom PL3 for 3.15.
We have converted it for use with 3.41, major cleaning up of the coding and added/removed some stuff. /the only reason we are releasing this is because we said we would. This is still experimental so don't complain if something doesn't work for you.

What makes this payload different is that it is a hybrid of PL3 and hermes. It is very stable with 0 lock ups, but there is a catch some backups will return a 800xxx error. This payload is very stable but also kind of a backwards step in our goals as it uses syscall36. Either way it is still a very good payload.

*I might have left out a few features I cant recall right now due to lack of sleep*

I have tested this with Gaia 1.03.1 and I was able to load backups but as I stated above some games will give you a 8000xxxx error and is bing looked into. I have also tested BlackBox FTP, Comagen Filemanager, Snes9x and all run perfectly. If you want to use multiman make sure to set syscall36 in your options.ini.

Things I haven't checked (permissions)

This is a PS3 homebrew game. The objective is to not get crushed by the bouncing black balls.

The SPOOFING feature will trick the PS3 games into thinking that you are running firmware 3.50 on your system.

SNES9X is a Super Nintendo emulator for the PS3.

If you exit a ROM with L3+R3, you can return back to the game while inside the ROM Browser menu by pressing

L2+R2 simultaneously.

all but SuperEagle, Super2xSaI and Curved CRT run at fullspeed at 1080p 16:9 - the highest resolution. If a shader doesn't run at fullspeed on that resolution, 720p resolution 16:9/4:3 will run it just fine at fullspeed.
